This a keynote speech I gave in January 2019 at Ritsumeikan University in Kyoto and in 2018 in May at Clustering at the Universidad de Valencia, in April at the Universidad de Seville, and last year in June  at the VIII Workshop on Institutions, Individual Behavior and economic Outcomes in Corte and at the Uddevalla Symposium, in October at the Regional Innovation Policies Conference in Santiago de Compostela and in November at the XV International Scientific Conference in Ostrava.

Chinese and Indian MNEs’ shopping spree in advanced countries. How good it is for their innovative output?

Chinese and Indian multinationals are continuously expanding their operations in Europe and the USA through cross-border acquisitions (CBAs), with the aim of tapping into international knowledge located in target firms and innovative hubs. In this article published in the Journal of Economic Geography with Amendolagine, Giuliani and Martinelli, we look into the innovative impacts that CBAs have on the acquiring multinational enterprises.

With Vito Amendolagine, Andrea Presbitero and Adnan Seric I published an IMF Working Paper on whether and how the participation and position in global value chains  of host countries is associated with local sourcing by foreign investors in 19 Sub-Saharan African countries and Vietnam.

My paper co-authored with Vito Amendolagine, Andrea Presbitero and Marco Sanfilippo  was awarded the prize for the best paper in the track International Business and Economic Geography at EIBA in Milano.  It was also presented last year in June at the Sase Conference in Lyon, in October at Globelics in Athens and SIE in Cosenza, in December at the Global Production Networks in Singapore, in February at the Geoinno2018 in Barcelona and in March at Centro Rossi Doria in Roma.
